Since my last reflection, I have completed a variety of activities to improve my knowledge of the French language. I completed more tests and activities of Duolingo to increase my vocabulary. https://www.duolingo.com/. This is the website for Duolingo that I have made an account and have been using. The most recent lessens I have completed are present verbs and questions. This has helped to increase my vocabulary. I can use more verbs and questions to allow me to say more sentences and speak more confidently. For example, I have learned sentences such as:
· Est-ce que c'est un problème ? — Is it a problem?
· Il sait parler allemand. — He knows how to speak German.
However I also found and studied new sources for French language development. I have researched a learned a variety of French sayings. I now know their direct meaning in English, and the actual saying in English. This has helped me get a better grasp of the French language and learn some helpful sayings I could use when speaking. I used this website: http://french.about.com/od/expressions/a/proverbs.htm , to help me find a learn some French sayings. I translated and understood them all, before posting them on my blog. Examples where:
· Vouloir, c'est pouvoir.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
"To want, that is to be able."
· Mieux vaut tard que jamais.
Better late than never.
"Late is worth more than never."
I already knew a bit of French before I began this course as I had studied it at school when I was young. However, over the last few months, I have studied and learned so many new words, sentences and sayings in French. My study over this course already has increased my knowledge of French and I now know that I can learn so much more as I increase my time and learning. I have discovered about myself that I have so much more to learn and there are so many parts of the language that I have forgotten. This study of French has helped me to remember what I had previously known and taught me many new things as well. I also learned ten sentences in French and said them out loud for a video on my blog. This helped with my pronunciation of the language and again boosted my confidence in French. The problem I encountered studying French was that the Duolingo lessens were become very repetitive and I was losing interest in the website and subject. However I overcame this by finding new sources on the internet, such as the website with the French sayings, to help me learn more French in a new and exciting way. This improved my motivation to learn the language. Overall I am happy with my progress so far. I will continue working towards the goals I set last reflection. I believe I will be able to achieve them next year when I continue learning. I believe that learning a new language, such as French, will greatly help me in all of my future endeavours. Speaking another language is a skill that is highly regarded in today’s society. I believe it will; help me adjust to knew environments if I decide to study abroad in my future and also help me gain employment, as it is an impressive thing to know.
